Team Fiji picked up three silver medals and two bronze medals in the Pacific Games last night.
Fiji Powerlifter Sainimere Abariga settled for a silver medal in the women’s Up to 72kg Bench Press - Deadlift - Squat category.
In swimming, veteran Fiji swimmer Caroline Puamau settled for a silver medal in the women’s 50m Butterfly final while Matelita Buadromo came in third place.
Fiji also settled for silver in the 4x50m mix Freestyle relay last night.
The swimming finals continue at 8 tonight.
In squash, the Fiji women’s team settled for a bronze medal in the team event last night.
Fiji shooter Glen Kable won a gold medal in the Single Rise Mix ‑ Shootoff competition yesterday.
Christian Stephen who is also representing Fiji settled for a silver medal.
Meanwhile the Vodafone Fiji 7s team has qualified for the gold medal quarterfinals after thrashing Tahiti 50-0 in their last pool match.
The gold medal quarterfinal starts at 3.06pm today, the semis start at 4.56pm while the final is at 9.49 tonight.
The Telecom Fijiana side thrashed Tonga 45-0 yesterday.
They play their final pool match against Tahiti at 2pm today.
The playoffs will start at 6.46pm while the gold medal playoff is at 8.58 tonight.
The Fiji men’s basketball team won their second playoff match against Tahiti 75-67 last night and have also kept their gold medal hopes alive.
The women’s basketball team remain unbeaten in the Pacific Games after they defeated Papua New Guinea 88-60 in the first playoff match yesterday.
Their next playoff match will be against Tahiti at 3pm today.
The Fiji men’s soccer team will also be competing in the Olympic Qualifier semifinals today.
They will meet PNG at 4.30pm today while New Zealand play Vanuatu in the first semifinal.
The Olympic Qualifier final will be played on Sunday at 4.30pm.
Looking at the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 31 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze.
Tahiti is in second place with 15 gold, 13 silver and 11 bronze, Samoa is in third place with 14 gold and 14 silver, New Caledonia is now in fourth place with 14 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze, and Australia is in fifth place with 8 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze.
Team Fiji is in sixth place with 8 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze.
