"Do something with it!" yelled Wyatt Crockett to Crusaders' drop‑goal hero Mitchell Hunt.
That command from loosehead prop Crockett encouraged Hunt to swing his golden boot and send the ball flying 43m to split the goal posts, giving the Crusaders a dramatic 25‑22 victory over the Highlanders in Christchurch in the Super Rugby yesterday.
"Jeez, I don't know where to start," an almost bewildered Hunt said afterwards.
Hunt says he was harping on at the boys, trying to get into them to keep going and Wyatt Crockett turned around and said 'do something with it'.
Hunt says he probably wasn't going to argue with Crockie and said to Bryn Hall to get two more rucks, and thought he had better chuck something in and kick it.
It was the first time Hunt had successfully nailed a drop goal in a match from such a long distance.
The Crusaders now sit on 63 points and will surely finish at the top of the New Zealand conference.
Meanwhile, in other matches, the Hurricanes beat the Western Force 34‑12, the Chiefs beat the Waratahs 46-31 and the Brumbies beat the Rebels 32-3.
