At just 17 years old, Gianna Singh aspires to represent both Fiji and her country of birth, the United States, in golf and become the first female American Indo-Fijian golfer to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, as she prepares to compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship for the first time.
Her journey began when her father, Edwin Singh, took her with him to the golf course after he had picked up the sport.
Edwin Singh, who grew up in Naboro and left Fiji with his family at the age of 13, says as a baby, Gianna would sit in her car seat and watch him practise at the driving range and once she learned to walk, she began holding and swinging a golf club and has continued playing ever since.
Gianna started competing at around six and a half years old and has now spent more than 11 years in competitive golf.
She has played in more than 150 tournaments and has either won or reached the podium in more than half of them.
Gianna won the Optimist Junior World Championship at the age of 13 and has twice placed in the top five at the IMG Junior World Championship. She also set a California high school record by shooting 60, or 12 under par, in a league match.
Her other achievements include winning the 2024 AJGA Colorado Championship, the 2025 California Women’s State Fair Championship and the 2026 San Francisco Women’s Championship. She also finished second at the 2025 California Women’s Championship, third at the 2025 Dixie Women’s Amateur and third at the 2026 Arizona Women’s Amateur.
Gianna is also a three-time NorCal Junior Cup Series champion, has reached 1,194 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and has qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in Tennessee.
She also competes on the Underrated Golf Tour associated with Stephen Curry.
According to her father, Gianna has earned a full scholarship to play golf at Grand Canyon University.
Gianna says switching to homeschooling in Grade 10 helped her balance schoolwork with frequent travel for golf and better prepared her for college, where she will need to manage academics while competing with her team.
She says it's been very important for her to have all the support from her parents because she understands that not every child has the support from their parents.
Gianna says she is grateful that her parents work hard to provide for her and give her the best of the best, training and coaching to make her the best golfer she can be and to achieve her dreams.

Her father further says that Gianna’s golf journey requires significant financial commitment, where they prioritise coaching, equipment, tournament fees and travel over family holidays and other expenses.
He says Gianna also works closely with long-time PGA-certified coach Noah Montgomery to strengthen her game and mental resilience during difficult periods while physical preparation is equally important, with Gianna training in the gym under Charlie and Arnie Zamora to build the strength, fitness and consistency needed for high-level competition.
Singh says he and his wife make sure that she has everything.

Gianna further says playing alongside Fijian golf legend Vijay Singh at the 2024 PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach was an eye-opening experience, particularly seeing his work ethic up close.
She says while warming up for the first day of the tournament, she saw Singh at the end of the range with about three bags of balls and he was hitting them at the end of the other side of the range without once getting tired.
Her father also says Vijay Singh’s journey from Fiji to the international stage should serve as an inspiration to young athletes.
He says what impressed him most was Singh’s commitment to the game, even after decades at the highest level and being close to 60 years old, he works harder than some of the young kids he knows.
Singh says the former world number one was humble and generous with his time during the three days they played together.
He says those lessons continue to shape the message he gives his daughter as she works towards the next level.
Gianna says next month will be her first visit to Fiji, and she hopes to use the trip to connect with and encourage young people through sport.
The young golfer is encouraging young girls to believe in themselves, dream big and work hard, saying success takes time and perseverance.
She adds that challenges and setbacks are part of the journey, but staying dedicated, trusting the process and never giving up can lead to success.
Her father says the family hopes to visit a golf course and, if possible, organise a small event for children where Gianna can help and inspire them.
Singh adds the trip will also be an opportunity to show Gianna where he was born and reconnect with family in Fiji.
