Zoe Moore acquitted of meth possession charge after nearly six years
Drug accused Zoe Maharaj Moore has been acquitted by the Suva Magistrates Court where she was charged for allegedly possessing 0.0083 grams of methamphetamine on July 20, 2020.

She was charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

During the trial Police officer Basilio Vevewa told the court that officers went to Moore’s Brown Street apartment after receiving information that drugs were allegedly being sold there.

Vevewa said because the matter was time-sensitive, they did not obtain a search warrant before going to the scene.

He said Moore was alone in the apartment and handed over the methamphetamine to the officers herself when informed they were there to conduct a search.

During cross-examination by Moore’s lawyer, Mesake Waqavanua, Vevewa confirmed a female police officer was also present at the scene, although he had not included her in his statement.

Vevewa had denied claims that the drugs were outside the compound or that he had earlier asked Moore for money before arresting her.

The Police Prosecution has 28 days to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, Moore remains in remand for charges relating to possession of a grenade and methamphetamine.
