26-year-old Shivendra Shiamal Sharma experienced a deeply bittersweet moment after losing his grandmother just a day before graduating as a primary school teacher.
A resident of Tulalevu, Sigatoka, Sharma shares that it was one of the most bittersweet moments of his life, stressing he felt immense pride and relief at graduating however, that pride was deeply overshadowed by the sadness of losing his grandmother.
He explains that it felt as though a part of the celebration was missing because she was not there to witness his graduation.
Sharma adds that he experienced both joy and a profound sense of emptiness at the same time, as he never imagined she would leave them during such a significant moment of celebration.
Sharma also shares that he stayed at a relative’s place and would wake up in the early hours to travel from Sabeto to FNU Natabua Campus to avoid traffic and ensures he arrived on time for his classes.
An emotional mother, Saleshni Subhashni, expresses that it was extremely difficult for her as a mother to send her son away from home to study teaching at the Natabua Campus in Lautoka.
Subhashni shares that as farmers, the family faced many challenges in sending their children to school, and Sharma’s achievement is truly a blessing.
Sharma advises students to study hard and always work towards achieving their goals.
