Schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions will remain closed today, while schools in the Northern Division will remain open.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says this decision follows updated situational reports from all four divisions, in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), and reflects the ongoing impact of adverse weather conditions across parts of the country.
He says subject to further assessments, schools in the Western, Central, and Eastern Divisions are expected to resume on Monday, pending official confirmation.
He also says current reports confirm 1,019 evacuees across affected areas, including 698 in the Western Division, 221 in the Central Division, and 100 in the Eastern Division.
He adds that several schools in these divisions continue to operate as evacuation centres, further limiting their readiness for normal school operations.
The Minister says flooded roads, unsafe crossings, and restricted access routes continue to pose significant risks.
He says the Ministry emphasises that the safety and well-being of all students remain the top priority.
Radrodro says students in the affected divisions are to remain at home under the supervision of parents and guardians.
He is urging parents to ensure that children do not attempt to cross flooded areas under any circumstances.
The Education Minister says tertiary institutions are encouraged to make independent decisions based on their own risk assessments.
He is encouraging parents and guardians to support learning from home through school-provided platforms and resources.
