It is a bleak Christmas for a family as a 20 year old woman has perished in a house fire at Levuka Street off Bureta Street in Samabula North.
The National Fire Authority confirms that their firefighters tried their best to get into the burning house however it was too late as the woman had already passed away.
The corrugated iron and timber house was fully engulfed in flames.
The firefighters have managed to control the blaze.
The woman's distraught husband says he had received a call from his wife at about 4.06pm that she was going to sleep, and at 4.12pm she again called him saying that the house was on fire and she was trying to get inside the bathroom but it was filled with smoke.
