The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a resident Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Suva.
This marks a major step forward in diplomatic relations between Fiji and the UAE.
Fiji and the UAE first established diplomatic ties in 2010, with Fiji opening its embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2012.
The planned UAE mission in Suva will be the first diplomatic presence from the Gulf region in Fiji and is expected to also cover other Pacific Island countries.
The move is set to deepen cooperation in key areas such as renewable energy, climate resilience, trade and investment, education, and development assistance.
Government says the new embassy will also strengthen Fiji’s position as a key diplomatic hub in the Pacific, creating more opportunities for regional partnerships and international engagement.
