A vehicle break-in reported in the early hours of Monday has left residents of Narere, Volavola road concerned about safety in the area.
Resident Manoa Nawai says he returned from his village in Nakorotubu, Ra, between 1.30am and 2am and parked his vehicle outside his residence.
Nawai, who is currently studying and working in Suva, says he left some food inside the vehicle but took his wallet and other valuables indoors.
At around 6am, a neighbour alerted him that his vehicle had been broken into.
Upon checking, Nawai says he discovered that the windows of his car had been smashed and a subwoofer and amplifier, valued at about $150 each, were stolen.
He says the engine of the vehicle was not damaged.
He adds that a neighbour’s vehicle, which was parked nearby, was also broken into.
Nawai says he immediately contacted police, who attended the scene and recorded the matter.
However, he claims that no fingerprints were taken during the investigation.
The incident has caused stress for both Nawai and his neighbour.
Nawai is urging members of the public to remain vigilant.

He also appealed to those responsible, saying that stealing for money or food does not solve problems and encouraged them to return to their villages and live honestly.
