Two juveniles have been charged in two separate sacrilege cases, with investigators now widening their focus to those receiving stolen items.

Police say a 17-year-old has been charged by Navua Police for a sacrilege incident in Calia Back Road.

They say a 41-year-old man has also been charged for the offence of receiving, Contrary to Section 306 of the Crimes Act 2009 .

Police add both have appeared in court, with their cases to be recalled later this month.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old student from Newtown has been charged for allegedly stealing several items, including a rug, gas burners and other assorted goods, all of which were recovered by the Southern Division taskforce.

Police say the festive season usually brings a rise in opportunistic crimes, and investigations will now extend to those enabling the offences by buying or receiving stolen items.

They are urging the public to secure their homes and frequently targeted belongings that can be easily resold, such as mobile phones, electronic devices, shoes, jewellery and bags.

They are calling on the public to prioritise safety and security at home and in public places.
