Trial vacated for Rihaal Kumar as he undergoes treatment

The trial date for 18-year-old high school student Rihaal Kumar, who is alleged to have caused the death of Sharuf Shaakir Khan, has been vacated.
The trial was scheduled to begin today and run until the 6th of March.In the first psychiatric report, it was stated that Kumar was fit to stand trial.
High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar says Dr Shital Singh from Saint Giles Hospital informed the court that the report is not ready however, Kumar is undergoing treatment.
He says that some abnormalities were found after a brain scan, and a further one month has been requested for treatment and report to be submitted.
Defence lawyer Robert Bancod says they have met Kumar but are not aware of what treatment he is undergoing.
State lawyer Bhavna Kantharia had no objection to vacating the trial dates.
Justice Goundar says that after the report is ready, he will assess the matter and fix a new trial date.
Kumar is charged with one count of murder for allegedly killing Khan at a Suva apartment complex in July last year.
The matter is adjourned to the 16th of next month.
