A platform for open discussion on opportunities, constraints, and pathways to improve tourism outcomes in Vanua Levu and Taveuni was the main focus for discussion by Tourism Fiji CEO Dr. Paresh Pant.
Dr Pant says Tourism Fiji is strengthening its engagement with operators in Vanua Levu and Taveuni after hosting an industry consultation and talanoa session that brought together its full board and industry stakeholders from across the Northern tourism corridor.
He says the session followed Tourism Fiji’s final board meeting of the year, held at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation’s Na Vualiku office, and supports the Ministry’s Na Vualiku Program.
He notes that traditional leaders Ratu Jone Saumaibulu Maivalili (Tui Wailevu), Sepesa Tavanavanua (Taukei Nacibaciba), and Ratu Jope Tuitoga (Tui Nawadra) were present, underscoring the importance of vanua partnerships in shaping the tourism future of the region.
Tourism Fiji adds that the talanoa helped align industry priorities and understand the realities of operators in Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni.
He says the region offers some of Fiji’s most authentic experiences, and integrating these with its accommodation offerings will help create more meaningful journeys for visitors and communities.
Dr. Pant highlighted the upcoming Fiji Matai 3.0 training program for international travel agents, saying better links between global sellers and Northern tourism products will help attract higher-value visitors, lengthen stays, and strengthen local business and community benefits.
Nukubati’s Jenny Bourke says the consultation reflected a positive shift in how Vanua Levu is positioned, noting its focus on sustainability, authentic gastronomy, and nature-based experiences.
Sharon Wild, General Manager and Owner of Naveria Heights Lodge, says direct engagement with the board gives Northern operators confidence that the region’s strengths in adventure, wellness, and nature will be part of Fiji’s wider tourism vision.
Daku Resort Manager Aubrey Whippy says the meeting allowed operators to share their experiences and explore ways to strengthen relationships as the Na Vualiku program progresses.
Tourism Fiji says it will compile insights from the session, feed them into its 2025 marketing strategy, and provide detailed feedback to operators.
Dr. Pant says Vanua Levu and Taveuni remain essential to Fiji’s tourism story, and Tourism Fiji is committed to elevating their profile.
