Tiktoker, Lui Vuibureta, also known as Xkon will be sentenced next Tuesday for making derogatory remarks against the Minister for Information, Lynda Tabuya during a TikTok livestream.
He pleaded guilty to the charges last week.
Vuibureta says he was drunk when the video was made and has no previous convictions.
He told the court that he completed his secondary school studies but was later deported for committing a crime.
In mitigation, defence lawyer Eroni Navuda says Vuibureta has a young family and is currently unemployed.
Navuda requested Suva High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar to consider the time Vuibureta has already spent in custody as sufficient punishment.
He says Vuibureta has already spent 46 days in remand and that this is enough to serve as a deterrent.
Navuda adds that if the court is considering further imprisonment, it has the power to suspend the sentence.
In her victim impact statement, Tabuya mentioned that the video was deeply shocking and hurtful.
She highlighted that it affected both her and her family.
Tabuya says that as a result, she lost her appetite and was unable to engage publicly for some time.
She adds that the sentence should reflect the seriousness of such conduct and that no one should use social media to abuse or degrade others.
The incident took place on the 14th of September last year.
