Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Urmil lies over Vanuatu and is expected to move southeast, passing to the southwest of Fiji, it is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to parts of the country from later today.

The Nadi Weather Office says a Heavy Rain Warning is now in force for the Western Division, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A Heavy Rain Alert is also in force for Macuata and the Northern Division of Bua Province.

They say a trough of low pressure associated with cloud and showers, remains slow-moving over Fiji.

The Weather Office says localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

People are urged to remain vigilant.
