Fiji’s fight against waste management challenges has gained momentum after the Suva City Council joined the Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) as a major partner for the 2026 Global Recycling Day celebrations, which will be held at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva on 18th March.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of an agreement between the Suva City Council and the Pacific Recycling Foundation.

PRF Founder, Amitesh Deo acknowledged the Council's team for their openness and commitment to working alongside grassroots recyclers, noting that partnerships of this nature have historically been challenging to establish.

He says the collaboration brings renewed energy and demonstrates a strong model of cooperation between public institutions and grassroots recycling organisations to collectively address waste management challenges.

SCC Acting CEO, Tevita Boseiwaqa emphasised the importance of meaningful partnerships in tackling the growing pressures within the waste management sector.

He says the challenges facing waste management systems require strong collaboration and shared responsibility.

Boseiwaqa adds that the Council is proud to partner with PRF for the 2026 Global Recycling Day celebrations and to support initiatives that deliver tangible and lasting change for communities.

Further details, including national campaigns and programme highlights for the 2026 Global Recycling Day celebrations, will be announced later this month.
