A prominent supermarket in Laucala Bay has readjusted the price of a 454g salted Anchor Butter after it was found selling the price-controlled item at $20.58 instead of the FCCC-approved price of $15.69.
The supermarket is now under investigation by the FCCC for the pricing discrepancy identified on Friday.
FCCC has confirmed that the price has since been corrected while the investigation continues.
Following questions by fijivillage News, FCCC says they conducted inspections at two outlets of the supermarket, including the Laucala Bay outlet, as part of their ongoing monitoring functions.
They say following these inspections, the trader is being investigated, and a Requisition for Information Notice has been issued requiring the provision of relevant documents and information for further assessment.
When questioned when the investigation will conclude, FCCC says the investigation timeline is dependent on the expiry of the notice that has been issued to the trader.
They say once the specified timeframe of 5 days lapses and the required information is assessed, the investigation will proceed in accordance with due process.
FCCC says they will continue to monitor traders closely and will not hesitate to take action against any business found to be undermining consumer protection or price control regulations.
The Commission is urging the public to report unfair trading practices, reminding consumers to stay vigilant and check the FCCC Master Price List for controlled items.
They also warn retailers that price control compliance is mandatory, with enforcement action to be taken against any overcharging or misleading practices.
