The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Fiji (SPCA Fiji) has started its outreach clinic in the Nasese area from next Saturday, with the Muanikau community stepping up to help coordinate the clinic.
SPCA Fiji says pet owners from nearby areas are also welcome to take advantage of this opportunity to have their pets desexed and health-checked.
They say this outreach clinic is a subsidised service supported through Agriculture Fiji and Waterways Fiji, and is intended for low-income families who genuinely cannot afford the regular desexing fees of $60 to $100.
They also say services will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
SPCA Fiji is also requesting everyone to be honest about their needs and to avoid taking free appointments if they are able to pay.
They say these limited spaces are meant to support pet owners who are struggling to care for their animals, and if people are able to make a donation, it would be greatly appreciated as it will help them continue providing these vital clinics.
The organisation is also planning to visit Raiwaqa, Makoi, and Nasinu in the next two to eight weeks, and is also looking for suitable venues in Tamavua and the outer Nausori areas.
