Soyizwapi returns to lead Blitzboks at Singapore

Soyizwapi returns to lead Blitzboks at Singapore

Siviwe Soyizwapi will make his return to the Blitzboks squad for the upcoming HSBC SVNS Singapore 7s this week.

Soyizwapi last represented the Blitzboks at the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles in May last year.

He will lead the side, as Impi Visser has been rested for this trip and for the Perth 7s early next month.

The Blitzboks have named two uncapped players, Luan Giliomee and Ronaldo Young, who could earn their first caps in Singapore, while Sebastiaan Jobb is back in the squad, having last played in Singapore in April last year.

Head coach Philip Snyman says injuries, planned rotation, and building depth towards the 2028 Olympic Games all played a role in these selections.

South Africa is in Pool A with Fiji, Spain, and Great Britain.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s squad is currently in Singapore preparing to defend their title, which they won last year by defeating Kenya 21-12.

They will open against Great Britain at 4.32pm on Saturday, followed by matches against Spain at 7.58pm and South Africa at 11.46pm.

The Men’s Cup semi-finals will be played at 6.52pm on Sunday, with the final scheduled for 11.41pm.
