Skipper Select XV ready to go head to head with Drua

Rugby fans can expect an epic battle when the finest talent from the domestic Skipper Cup competition takes on the Super Rugby Pacific franchise, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, next month.

Fiji Rugby Union says the clash represents a critical step in bridging the pathway between grassroots rugby and the elite professional level.

FRU is also delighted to welcome Subrails as a proud sponsor of the much-anticipated game.

Fiji Rugby Chief Executive Officer, Koli Sewabu described it as a groundbreaking occasion for local rugby.

Sewabu says they are grateful to Subrails for coming on board for this historic match, which gives our top provincial players the opportunity to test themselves against Fiji’s Super Rugby Pacific team.

He says this fixture provides a valuable platform for our local players to showcase their talent and measure their skills in a professional environment, and it sets a strong example for future Skipper Cup and Subrails Marama Cup players, helping to close the gap between grassroots rugby and our elite pathway programmes.

The CEO says Subrails has continued to play a key role in the growth of Fiji Rugby, recently expanding its support through sponsorship of the women’s provincial competition, highlighted by the successful 2025 Subrails Marama Championship.

Commenting on the expanded sponsorship, Subrail's Executive Director, Shiva Gounder, says the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to building strong foundations within communities.

Goundar says they believe in investing in strong foundations both in their work and in the communities, and supporting the Skipper Select XV is a natural extension of their commitment to Fiji Rugby.

The Skipper Select XV will face the Drua on the 6th of February at 4pm at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
