The Skipper Select XV while it is a new innovation is not just for the sake of playing the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua once a year.

Fiji Rugby Chair, John Sanday highlighted this to the media at Rugby House saying it is done with the idea of developing it into a particular brand.

Sanday says they have been invited to a Four Nations tournament in South Africa, and the Skipper Select is probably the team that will go with a few of the more experienced players.

He says it is part of developing the local pool of players and seeing what opportunities are out there in Europe that they might want to explore, or in the USA.

The Chair says they are also having these conversations with the professional sports administrators in Europe.

He has recently just returned from the Middle East where he saw the Fijian diaspora, a lot of them have been there for the last 10 to 15 years building their lives there as well as playing rugby.

Sanday says they are very content and that was a very proud moment for him.

He adds now in the era of professional rugby Fiji Rugby will use the power of their brand to open these doors, and that's happening already, and announcements will be made in due time.

The Skipper Select play the Fijian Drua in 2 weeks at Churchill Park Lautoka.
