A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rain is now in force for the eastern parts of Viti Levu from Navua to Suva, through Nausori, to Korovou, Natadradave and Naitasiri.
The Nadi Weather Office says a weak trough of low pressure affects the Fiji group and afternoon thunderstorms are expected to develop over the interior and drift eastwards.
They say severe thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rain which may lead to flash-flooding of low-lying areas in the next few hours over eastern parts of Viti Levu from Navua to Suva, through Nausori, to Korovou, Natadradave and Naitasiri.
People are advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, and not to walk, ride bicycles or drive through floodwaters. They are also urged to unplug computers and electrical appliances, stay indoors away from windows, keep children inside, and remain vigilant by closely monitoring weather conditions.
Thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall is expected until late afternoon or evening.
