Nabukalevu-i-Ra District School teacher Emily Sua says the school compound, though not yet severely flooded, is slowly taking in water, while fallen tree branches signal the growing strength of the winds.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Sua says water level began to rise at about 4pm and continues to rise.

Sua says the nearby village, Nabukalevu-i-Cake, sits on higher ground and remains largely safe from immediate flooding, but concerns are growing for those closer to vulnerable areas, especially children unsettled by the changing weather.

She is urging parents and guardians to keep children indoors and close, as anxiety grows alongside the rising tide.

She adds that the emotional toll is becoming as evident as the physical threats, with many young students reportedly worried as conditions shift.

Meanwhile, three evacuation centres are currently open in Kadavu including Nakasaleka, Lawaki and Rakiraki Halls.
