As Mardaani 3 gears up for release tomorrow, actress Rani Mukerji has called for a change in how films are categorised, saying cinema should not be defined by gender.
She says films should simply be called good or bad, rather than “female-centric.”
She explained that just as we don’t refer to someone as a male or female teacher, they are simply teachers, a film should also be regarded as just a film.
Mukerji says shifting this narrative would be empowering for artists.
Reflecting on the impact of the Mardaani franchise, she noted that it has inspired more women to join the police force and has helped spark conversations around women’s safety.
Calling Shivani Shivaji Roy a character that the times demand, she says she hopes to continue championing stories of strog women through her work
