As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran highlighted that this is a time of discipline, compassion and generosity, and that these values are shared across all religions.
The Minister joined faith leaders and community members at the Interfaith Search Fiji Iftaar Programme held at the Darul Huda Complex, Brown Street earlier this week.
Kiran says the Iftaar gathering is a special moment that brings people of different faiths together in unity, reflection and respect.
She reminded those present that the values of kindness, humility and generosity are the foundation of Fiji’s peaceful and multicultural society.
Kiran stressed the importance of protecting and supporting vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
She says women must live free from violence and be empowered to reach their full potential, children must grow up in safe and loving homes, the elderly must be cared for with dignity, and vulnerable groups must always be supported.
She also highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue, saying it plays a key role in building understanding and peace in society.

Kiran says Fiji’s diversity is its strength, and gatherings like the Iftaar help bring people closer together.
She also extended her well wishes to the Muslim community, wishing them a blessed Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Muslim League will attempt to sight the new moon tomorrow.
If the moon is sighted, Eid will be celebrated on Saturday, and if not, then it will be celebrated on Sunday.
