A man has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for snatching a $23,000 chain in broad daylight in Suva City.

35-year-old Jone Rasi has been convicted of one count of aggravated robbery.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

The complainant, a general manager at a Suva business, was walking in the city on 7th March when Rasi pushed him and took his chain.

Suva Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne says the chain has been recovered and has ordered it to returned to the owner.

While sentencing Rasi, Magistrate Somaratne said he would not impose a suspended sentence, to ensure the punishment serves as a deterrent.

He said Rasi also has other similar cases before the court.

Magistrate Somaratne ordered Rasi to be produced in court for another case on Wednesday.
