Rakiraki Town is flooded, and the water level is expected to rise this afternoon due to the heavy rain experienced throughout the country and the next high tide at 3.26pm today.

Rakiraki Town Special Administrator Peni Duaniwai says business owners in Rakiraki town have been advised to move their vehicles to high ground.

He says other areas around Rakiraki are also flooded, including Vunitogoloa bridge, which is closed to all traffic.

He is urging the public to take precautionary measures and liaise with the Provincial Administrator and the District Officer in Rakiraki for assistance, as they are working closely with the Police and the Fire Authority to ensure that the public is safe and stays home.

Duaniwai urges people living in low-lying areas to move to higher ground, while it is still daylight.
