Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that he has begun moving into the official Prime Minister’s residence at 224 Ratu Sukuna Road, marking a busy start to the new year that has included official duties, cultural obligations, and Cabinet business.
Rabuka revealed that the relocation is under way as the building he has been using currently rightfully belongs to the Chief Justice.
He says that the Ratu Sukuna Road residence had been specifically purchased to serve as the Prime Minister’s official home.
He also addressed rumours circulating on social media suggesting that he had been hospitalised.
Rabuka firmly dismissed the claims, saying that he was never in hospital and had simply gone for his regular Ayurvedic massage near hospital, which is probably how the rumour started.
He described the speculation as malicious and misleading, stressing that he remains in good health and fully engaged in his responsibilities.
The Prime Minister also shared that earlier in the day, he had attended a reguregu to pay respects to the widow of a soldier who had served in the army and played rugby and cricket alongside him during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
On a personal note, the Prime Minister shared that several family members had recently departed Fiji, describing the experience as part of an “empty nest” phase.
He says his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson have relocated to Australia after spending 8 years in New Zealand, while his granddaughter has also travelled to Australia to spend time with her husband, who is working under the PALM Scheme, before returning to Fiji to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of the South Pacific.
He adds that despite the changes at home and the demands of national leadership, he remains energised.
