The Indian High Commission in Fiji hosted a vibrant poetry recital, essay awards, and cultural programs to mark World Hindi Day, celebrating the enduring bond between India and Fiji through the Hindi language.
The event, held at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, brought together local and visiting poets, showcased Hindi as a vital cultural link connecting communities across continents.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh emphasized the vital role of the Hindi language in preserving cultural identity, calling for a stronger focus on Hindi education.
Singh says it was a pleasure to see the growing interest in the language each year.

The Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that Hindi remains vibrant and relevant for future generations.
He highlighted the need for schools, particularly primary schools, to place greater emphasis on Hindi learning and also commended religious organizations for their continued efforts to promote the language among people of all ages.
The Minister also acknowledged the Government of India for supporting students who travel to India for further studies, many of whom return to teach Hindi locally.
Indian High Commissioner, Suneet Mehta praised the local community for preserving and promoting the Hindi language, saying that even though Fiji is thousands of miles away from India, the language remains alive and well respected in the country.
He emphasized the importance of using Hindi more actively in reading, writing, and on social media platforms, urging people to view the language as a cherished part of their cultural heritage rather than just a professional requirement.
