Good news for Fijians as a temporary reduction in visitor visa fees for Pacific nationals will take effect from 1 June 2026 for 12 months, and the total cost will be reduced from NZD $216 to NZD $161, which includes the standard immigration levy of NZD $41.
Immigration New Zealand says this fee reduction only applies to individuals applying outside of New Zealand.
They add that Pacific visitors already pay lower fees than visitors from other countries and are not required to pay the International Visitor and Conservation Levy, and for comparison, the total visitor visa cost for visitors from other countries is NZD $441.
Immigration New Zealand says parent, Boost Visitor Visa, and Group Visitor Visas are not included in this fee reduction.
They say this initiative reflects New Zealand’s commitment to supporting their Pacific neighbours, and it will make travel more accessible while ensuring immigration settings remain financially sustainable.
They say the 12-month period will help them understand the impact on travel patterns, demand, costs, and Immigration operations, and this will help inform any long-term decisions.
Immigration NZ says these changes build on recent improvements, including longer default visa durations, and the current trial of a visa-free pathway for Pacific travellers from Australia.
People visiting from American Samoa, Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu will have reduced visitor visa fees.
