The new e-ticketing system fully complies with all legal requirements for issuing fare payment receipts, which are now provided electronically and stored as electronic tickets, or e-tickets, on passengers’ bus cards.
This has been highlighted by Land Transport Authority Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa while supporting recent statements by the Fiji Bus Operators Association.
He stresses that of the public must have a valid and topped-up eTransport card to board public buses, as cash payments are no longer accepted.
Rokosawa adds the last four electronic tickets are available on a passenger’s bus card and include the date and time of travel, stage travelled, fare amount paid, and remaining card balance.
He stresses stipulated under Electronic Fare Ticketing Regulation 5, the LTA only requires proof that fare payment has been made adding, that under the new system, this proof is available electronically through hand-held devices, which display the last four transactions undertaken on an e-ticketing card.
Rokosawa says passengers will not be fined for not carrying paper receipts, as the electronic tickets stored on the bus card serve as valid proof of payment.
He adds LTA enforcement officers have been briefed and equipped with electronic scanning devices to verify fare payments by scanning passengers’ bus cards when required.
Rokosawa encourages all passengers to always carry their eTransport cards when travelling, as enforcement officers may need to verify electronic tickets during inspections.
