Garbage in Omkar Road Nasinu, has now been cleared after eyewitnesses reported tonnes of rubbish being dumped along the roadside.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Nasinu Town Council Chairman Felix Magnus outlined the strategies in place, stressing that the Council has acquired two new trucks and a grabber machine from the Ministry of Local Government to clear waste from roadside areas.

He adds that a clean-up campaign has been launched ahead of Christmas, with the aim of completing all cleaning by Christmas so that residents can enjoy a clean environment.

Magnus urges residents to show greater civic pride and take responsibility for waste management, noting that some people arrive at night in their cars to dump rubbish illegally in these areas.

He has also requested members of the public to take photos of vehicles and individuals involved in illegal dumping.

Meanwhile, Magnus highlights that a meeting was also held with the Fiji Police Force to discuss strategies to keep residents safe over the festive season, which begins today and runs until 15th January.
