This Christmas is merrier for Naitasiri farmer Aporosa Vuranisiga, as he has earned $11,000 after harvesting and selling 1,000 kava plants.

While speaking to fijivillage News from Waibasaga Village in Wainimala, Vuranisiga says he plans to buy two horses to help with farming, build his home, and possibly buy a car.

The 31-year-old farmer says that, depending on favourable weather, he will be harvesting 4,000 more plants.

The father of two daughters says he will be spending Christmas with his family and may also go for a picnic.

Vuranisiga has also highlighted that young men who do not have jobs and are loitering in towns, cities, and villages should return to their villages and take up farming to earn a living.

He adds that this is a much better option than selling drugs.
