Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s winger Viuviawa Naduvalo’s road to recovery remains uncertain, with the Fiji Rugby Union yet to provide an update on the injury he sustained during the Perth final.
Naduvalo was injured after South African forward Ryan Oosthuizen powered through to score a try, knocking the winger aside with his shoulders while shrugging off his tackle.
The Man of the Match from Singapore, and the current leading try scorer, was forced off the field following heavy contact.
He played an instrumental role for Fiji, scoring a try before sustaining the injury.
Fiji 7s coach Osea Kolinisau says he was proud of his players’ performances, adding that against a side like South Africa, Fiji needed to start strongly and make use of their width.
Kolinisau says minor mistakes proved costly, allowing the game to swing in South Africa’s favour.
He says the team will regroup ahead of the Vancouver and New York tournaments, as they aim to win the overall series, which remains their ultimate goal.
The Vancouver 7s will be held from the 7th and 8th of March.
Fiji is in Pool B with Australia, the United States, and Canada.
