Nacuqu withdrawn from Mike Friday Select 7s side as Vunisa called in as replacement

Fiji Men’s National 7s representative Waisea Nacuqu will not participate in the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s next week, following formal advice from the Human Resources Director of the Fiji Police Force.

Tournament organisers say the communication advised that, as a serving and paid employee of the Fiji Police Force, Nacuqu is required to return to his official duties and remain available to the Fiji Police team.

The organisers say as a result, Nacuqu is unable to take his place with the Mike Friday Select 7s for the upcoming tournament.

The organisers have also acknowledged and fully respect the position of the Fiji Police Force, recognising that Nacuqu’s professional and future obligations must take precedence.

They say that while it is disappointing to lose a player of Nacuqu’s calibre so close to the tournament, they acknowledge the decision of the Fiji Police Force and thank Nacuqu for his professionalism and understanding throughout the process.

They have also highlighted that 2024 Ambassador All Star team member, Sairuisi Vunisa, has been called into the squad as a replacement.

Vunisa was a standout selection in the 2024 Ambassador All Star Team, earning his place through the Rupeni Caucaunibuca selection, which was made based on Caucaunibuca’s own observations of a player who embodies his explosive flair, natural power, and game-breaking ability synonymous with his legacy.

The organisers say Vunisa’s inclusion ensures the Mike Friday Select 7s retain their attacking edge and depth as preparations continue for the world-class invitational tournament.

The Coral Coast Fiji 7s will be held from Thursday to Saturday next week at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
