A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of Fiji and Oceania Hospital to allow medical students from the University to get work experience in the private sector.

University of Fiji Vice Chancellor Shaista, Shameem states that at a time when our nation is facing a healthcare crisis, today's signing marks a significant step in an effort to improve the healthcare system.

Shameem says in a momentous occasion, today's agreement is a shared promise to those who are ready to help in the evolution of the health sector.

She says the willingness to sign today speaks volumes of Ocenias interest in improving service delivery, allowing students to have a wide spectrum of skills and knowledge.

The Vice Chancellor says they have signed an MOU with CWM Hospital as well, so essentially, their students are getting exposure to both the public and private sectors.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer for Oceania Hospital David Qumivutia says that both institutions have common synergies and the collaboration will enhance services.

Qumivutia says students will learn to understand the environment they are in, which will enhance their strategic approach.

He says this partnership marks an important step in strengthening collaboration between healthcare and academia, with a shared commitment to learning, professional development, and capacity building for the future workforce of Fiji.
