The Northern Division is expected to get another economic boost as the Motibhai Group is developing a new $8.5 million purpose-built Distribution Centre in Labasa.
The Motibhai Group says this modern facility will enhance operational efficiency, strengthen supply chain services across the Northern Division, supporting the company’s commitment to sustainable development and contributing towards the growth of the Fijian Economy
Key features of the new distribution centre include a warehouse exceeding 1,500 square metres, incorporating a mezzanine level, open unloading area, and a 7-metre height to support efficient storage and logistics operations.
They say it also features a 192 square metre ground-floor office block and a 185 square metre first-floor manager’s flat, providing on-site administration and operational oversight.
The Motibhai Group says the centre will have enhanced safety features, upgraded drainage infrastructure and integrate solar energy systems to support their move toward more sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices.
The group further says the project’s architectural and design consultants are LHM, with Engineered Design providing geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering services, and Irwin Alsop Pacific PTE LTD delivering building services engineering.
They say the project will be constructed by Total Infrastructure Fiji PTE Ltd, with a scheduled construction timeframe of 44 weeks.
Motibhai Group Executive Director Jinesh Patel says this new distribution centre represents a major investment in the Northern Division.
He says it reflects their long-term commitment to the people of Northern Division, improving service delivery, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable environmental practices.
Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty commended the Motibhai Group for its foresight and continued confidence in the Fijian economy.
He notes that such significant capital injections are essential for transforming Labasa into a vibrant economic hub for the Northern Division.
Chetty says the Motibhai Group’s new Distribution Centre is a prime example of the high-impact domestic investment they are seeing in the North.
He also says this facility not only strengthens the region's supply chain capacity but also generates meaningful employment and improves the standard of services available to the people of Vanua Levu.
The CEO adds they remain committed to facilitating such projects that align with national goals of sustainable growth and infrastructure modernisation.
While acknowledging the support from Investment Fiji, Motibhai Group says they have played a pivotal role in facilitating regulatory requirements with the relevant authorities and welcoming the investment, recognising both the capital injection, new employment and the growth opportunities this project brings to the Northern Division.
Motibhai Group adds they are proud to invest in the future of the Northern Division through this state of the art and environmentally responsible facility.
