26-year-old Shivani Roy did not allow the barrier of dropping out in Year 10 and spending four years in prison to stop her from pursuing a career in business and supporting her children.
Sharing her story of struggles and challenges during the celebration of International Women’s Day at TISA Insurance, Shivani says her three children are what keep her going.

She says experiencing domestic violence at a younger age and becoming a mother at 17 was something she thought would go away once she was legally able to get married, yet everything kept getting worse day after day.
The 26-year-old says with no qualifications and after dropping out in Year 10 due to early motherhood, she experienced many challenges in trying to support her first child.

She adds that with the support of Razia Mohammed, the founder of Being Helping Hands Fiji, opportunities opened up for her to venture into business and support herself.

Mohammed says their aim this year is for Roy to attain a Business Management Certificate and be able to run her own business.
