Moala Island could soon become a game fishing hotspot under the government’s plans to develop a distinct tourism identity for the Lau Group.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka highlighted the opportunity during his visit to several islands in Lau, stressing the need to move tourism growth beyond western Viti Levu and promote the unique experiences of the outer islands.
Gavoka’s visit also focused on improving access infrastructure, including airstrip upgrades, as part of early discussions around a master plan for Lau tourism development.
Community leaders on Moala have welcomed the initiative, pointing to game fishing as a major potential attraction and a new source of opportunity for local youth.
