A joint team from the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection and the Fiji Police Force has stepped up efforts to protect children and vulnerable members of society during the festive season.

The Ministry says over the past two weeks, the team has been conducting random sweeps in urban centres across the country and will continue these operations throughout the holidays to address the rise in beggars and children staying or selling on the streets.

Families found begging with children have been provided with food rations and safely returned to their homes.

In one case, a senior citizen living on the streets was offered care and accommodation at the Golden Age Home.

The Government continues to emphasise its commitment to protecting children, caring for vulnerable people, and ensuring safe communities during this festive season.
