MGM leads boys' and girls' divisions at Suva Zone 1

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School currently leads the medal tally for the boys' and girls' divisions at the Coca-Cola Suva Zone 1.

In the boys division, MGM leads with 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, Ratu Sukuna Memorial School is in second place with 4 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze, and Nasinu Secondary School is third with 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.

In the girls division, MGM leads with 13 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze, followed by RSMS in second place with 3 gold and 1 silver, and Ballantine Memorial School sits in third place with 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Jean Luc Kalowia of Church College was unchallenged in the Senior Boys 100 metres blue ribbon event, stopping the clock at a manual time of 11.00 seconds. His time in the heats was 10.93 seconds.

Walter Muanivalu of Nasinu Secondary School won silver with a time of 11.03 seconds, and Inoke Bewaku of Dudley High School claimed bronze with a time of 11.23 seconds.

In the Senior Girls 100 metres, Lidia Waqairapoa of MGM won gold with a manual time of 12.24 seconds, Titilia Namu of Church College claimed silver with a time of 12.64 seconds, and Maria Salele of Sacred Heart College won bronze.

Meanwhile, the talk of the Zone was MGM’s sprint queen Sera Nasilivata, who dominated the Intermediate Girls 100 metres, turning the track into her personal runway.

She clocked a manual time of 10.91 seconds, smashing Veniana Liga’s 2014 record of 11.58 seconds and surpassing Heleina Young’s 11.71 seconds from the 2019 Coke-Cola Games Intermediate Girls record.

The Suva Zone 1 competition will continue today at the HFC Bank Stadium.
