Mere from Bua is turning creativity into opportunity at the Garden City Market Day in Raiwai, selling handmade tekiteki flowers, affordable clothing, and shoes, all while supporting local artisans and bringing a splash of colour to the community.

Speaking to fijivillage News, the 43-year-old who is also the owner of My Bargains Galore in Lautoka, says she sources quality items from Australia, ranging from shoes and clothes to accessories, ensuring there is something to suit every budget.

Mere says prices at the market range from $2 for small items to $50 for premium pieces, making her offerings accessible to everyone.

Seeing the demand for unique and colourful items, Mere decided to branch out into making her own teki teki flowers.

She says she also collaborates with local women artisans, sourcing their crafts to support them and showcase their work to a wider audience.

The handmade tekiteki are a highlight, featuring designs inspired by Pacific cultures, including Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Caledonia, and the Cook Islands.

Mere says prices for these creations start at $2, with larger or one-of-a-kind pieces priced higher.

She emphasised that making tekiteki is not just a creative pursuit but also a practical opportunity for stay-at-home mothers or anyone looking for a side hustle.

Since opening her shop in 2019, Mere has seen her venture flourish.

She takes pride not only in selling quality products but also in helping her customers find something affordable and beautiful.
