The Land Transport Authority is urging all drives to slow down, as speeding fines have doubled in some categories.
Drivers exceeding the speed limit by less than 15 km per hour will now be fined $50.
LTA says that those going 15–29 km per hour over the limit will pay $75, while drivers caught speeding by 30 km per hour or more will face a $100 fine.
They add that illegal parking or stopping will now attract a $100 fine, up from the previous $20.
LTA says these changes reflect growing concerns about traffic congestion and pedestrian safety.
New penalties have also been introduced for failing to stop and weigh.
Offenders will be fined $300 for a first offence, $600 for a second, and $900 for any subsequent violations.
The new regulations are part of LTA’s efforts to save lives and restore discipline on Fiji’s roads.
LTA says reckless and non-compliant driving is contributing to increased road safety risks and is calling on all drivers to obey the law and drive responsibly.
