Labasa Airport will be closed from tomorrow until 27th March as runway strengthening works get underway, affecting travellers to and from Labasa.
The closure will allow contractors to carry out essential upgrades aimed at improving safety and infrastructure standards.
Fiji Airports says travellers will use Savusavu Airport as the main alternative air gateway, with Fiji Link operating 44 additional flights on the route and Northern Air also providing two daily flight.
They say passengers can then continue their journey to Labasa and surrounding areas by bus, taxis and organised transfers.
Prior to the start of works, officials presented a sevusevu to the villagers of Nakama Village, particularly members of the mataqali Nabukarabe, acknowledging them as the traditional landowners of the area on which the airport is situated.
Accompanied by contractors Flametree Fiji, the team also visited the village to formally inform the community that construction would commence.
Authorities say they will continue to keep stakeholders informed through open dialogue and partnership throughout the duration of the project.
