Kolinisau targets discipline and defence ahead of Cape Town 7s

Kolinisau targets discipline and defence ahead of Cape Town 7s

Discipline and defence were key weaknesses in the Fiji Airways Men's National team's disappointing performance at the Dubai 7s, and both are now major priorities as the team prepares for the Cape Town 7s.

Coach Osea Kolinisau says the two red cards issued during the tournament significantly impacted their momentum and structure on the field.

He also pointed to defensive lapses in their match against New Zealand, along with several critical mistakes, as reasons the team missed crucial opportunities.

The coach says he is working closely with the players to improve discipline, strengthen defensive patterns, and reduce errors as they aim for a better performance in Cape Town.

They will open their campaign against South Africa at 10.44 tonight before facing Great Britain at 1.38 tomorrow morning in their second pool match.

They will play New Zealand at 5.19 tomorrow morning in their last pool match.

The men’s semi-final will start at 10.22pm tomorrow and the final is at 2.43am Monday.

The Fijiana 7s will take on the USA at 8.44 tonight, before facing Great Britain at midnight, and they will meet New Zealand at 3.48 tomorrow morning in their last pool match.

The women’s semi-finals will start at 9.38pm tomorrow, and the final will be at 2.10am Monday.

South Africa is the defending men’s champion, while New Zealand is the defending women’s champion.

There will be no quarterfinals, and the top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals.
