The counsel for Fiji-Canadian national Joshua Aziz Rahman, whose conviction for possessing $31 million worth of cocaine was quashed, has appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision ordering a re-trial.
Rahman’s counsel Devanesh Sharma confirmed to Suva High Court Judge, Justice Thushara Rajasinghe that an appeal has been filed, with the matter to be called on the 6th of August.
Meanwhile, Justice Rajasinghe has ordered Assistant DPP Meli Vosawale to provide a report confirming Rahman has been compliant with his bail conditions.
Rahman was convicted and sentenced to 23 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 14-years.
He was imprisoned in October, 2021 and released in March this year.
