Rokotunidau remanded and his bench warrant cancelled in police officer’s attempted murder case
Saimoni Rokotunidau, who is charged with the attempted murder of a female police officer at the Laqere checkpoint earlier this year, has been remanded by the Suva High Court after absconding bail.

Rokotunidau appeared before High Court Judge, Justice Dane Tuiqereqere this morning.

He was limping and holding his face.

His bench warrant has been cancelled.

Justice Tuiqereqere has also ordered police to take Rokotunidau to a doctor immediately after he informed the court that he had wires in his mouth that were bothering him.

His speech was also slurred, and he required the assistance of a court clerk to be understood by Justice Tuiqereqere.

Rokotunidau sought the court’s approval to allow him to stay at home and seek medical help.

However, Justice Tuiqereqere stressed that he had lost that opportunity when he failed to appear in court.

He told Rokotunidau that he had been warned when he was granted bail and that the current situation was of his own making.

Justice Tuiqereqere has also ordered Rokotunidau to file an affidavit through his lawyer, Jerry Dinati, explaining why he failed to appear in court.

He will decide on the 25th of this month whether he will accept the reason given.

Meanwhile, Rokotunidau is expected to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court later for the absconding bail charge.

He was arrested yesterday morning.
