The Supreme Court has restored Fiji-Canadian national Joshua Aziz Rahman’s conviction and sentence imposed by the High Court over the 39.5kg of cocaine worth $31 million found at a Caubati home in 2019.
Justice Anthony Gates delivered the judgement this afternoon.
In an earlier ruling, the High Court sentenced Rahman to 23 years imprisonment in October 2021, with a non-parole period of 14 years, following his conviction.
The Court of Appeal later quashed the conviction and sentence and ordered a retrial.
Rahman’s lawyers lodged a petition on 10th April this year in the Supreme Court, seeking to have the retrial order set aside and, instead, an order for his acquittal.
