International Women’s Association Fiji President, Judy Compain, is calling on the Ministry of Health on how long it will take for them to investigate and put together a report on the cause of the water leak that occurred at the CWM Ante-Natal Clinic last December.

On December 12th, 2025, after inspecting work at the CWM Children’s Hospital, Compain walked through the CWM Ante-Natal Clinic and was shown a massive leak in the ceiling of the examination rooms.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Compain says she hasn’t received a report from the Ministry in this regard, and the CWM Administration was referring her questions to the Ministry for updates.

She says their work at the Children’s Hospital has been temporarily paused because in the Ministry’s statement, it was suggested that IWA contractors were the cause of the leaks.

She adds that she wrote to the Ministry last Monday asking if they had completed the investigation because she had asked their engineers who confirmed that the leaks had nothing to do with their bathroom project as they did not touch any taps, pipes or carry out any plumbing work.

Compain says their work at the Children’s Hospital has been on hold since December.

She further says that they could have completed the screening of the windows at the Children’s Hospital by now if the Ministry had not stopped their work.

The Ministry for Health and the CWM Hospital management had clarified in December that an initial assessment confirmed that the source of the leak was an old drainage pipe.

It says the pipe had been sealed off during renovations to the maternity washrooms, carried out by an interest group, and the seal had loosened over time, causing the water leakage.

They had also said that investigation was ongoing.

We have sent questions to the Ministry on the result of their investigation. They are yet to respond.
