Investigate defamatory social media posts - Kiran

By Rashika Kumar
25/01/2026
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran is calling on the Online Safety Commission and Fiji Police Force Cyber Unit to urgently look into social media posts defaming two women Members of Parliament, and to take the perpetrators to task.

While calling for an end to attacks against women in public office, Kiran says the social media post making allegations against two women MPs must not be tolerated.

She also says the post that tagged the Leader of the Opposition and Opposition Parliament Chambers should have been denounced by them.

Kiran says they should ask this supporter to take this defamatory post down and defend women in parliament from such derogatory language.

The Minister stresses both women MPs are bold and strong women who have both endured personal attacks in cyberspace in the past and emerged stronger.

She is urging all keyboard warriors to cease their personal attacks on social media platforms and let the police do their work.

Kiran says our focus should be on addressing issues together as a nation, supporting each other through these challenging times and building a better Fiji for the future.

She has also called on the media to be responsible in their reporting on such issues.

Kiran adds we need more women in parliament and such attacks will discourage any woman from public life.

Questions have been sent to the Online Safety Commission, Police and the Leader of the Opposition Inia Seruiratu.
