Strong winds continue to intensify and has damaged some homes in parts of Lautoka.

While speaking to fijivillage News, a resident of Field 40 says although the rain has eased for now, the winds are getting stronger.

Meanwhile, Lautoka City Council Head of Service Shalend Singh says the council is aware of some homes damaged by strong winds.

He says the Commissioner Western's Office has activated an emergency operations centre and will assess and respond accordingly.

Singh says they are working with Police to patrol the affected areas and minimise movement as the weather worsens.

He adds that Lovu, Vunato, Saru Back Road, Saweni and Drasa remain affected by flooding.
